There’s not much of a point in replaying the story again and again. Although the story mode is fun and all, once you’re done with it you’re basically done with 80% of the fun that the game has to offer. The only major complaint that a lot of people might have with the game is that it doesn’t exactly offer a lot of replayability. Players will play 17 different races throughout the course of this story and almost all of them will be different from each other. This story mainly revolves around the Mater-National racing tournament, which is held by Lightning McQueen himself in Radiator Springs, which was a heavily featured location in the movies. Story Mode and MinigamesĪs expected from the game, Cars Mater-National Championship features a story mode. All in all, the considerably large roster of characters is a great thing and makes the game more fun and enjoyable. You can play as these characters in different modes, or race against them as well. Along with this, you’ll be introduced to some great new characters like Giovanni from Italy, Emma from the United Kingdom, and a few more from other various locations across the globe. There’s some fan-favorites such Lightning McQueen and of course Mater himself who is featured in the title as well. You can race as any character that you want from the wide roster. However, finishing the game needs dedication. Gameplay is more similar to Excite Truck but Cars Mater-National Championship is comparatively easy to play and finish. There’s also the option to roam freely throughout the world of Cars, but the free-roam aspect isn’t anything to get too excited about as there are lots of restrictions. The controls are easy enough to get used to and some of the maps are pretty fun to try out. The simplicity of this game is one of the best things about it. But sometimes, staying simple is more than just great. It is rather simple and has nothing too unique about it at all. There’s nothing too spectacular about the gameplay of Cars Mater-National Championship. It is quite similar to the previous Cars game before it, but it is an improvement over them too. These new characters are cars from all around the world and some of them are quite likable as well. Along with him, there’s many more characters from the movies and even some new faces which you’ll see throughout the story. It features traditional racing mechanics and lots of different iconic characters from the movie, including Lighting McQueen.
The players are able to make a selection of 22 characters that you are able to unlock through challenges.Cars Mater-National Championship is a racing game based on the highly popular animated film series known as Cars by Pixar.
There is a lot in this game that has been taken directly form the Cars 3 movie, from the characters and animation style to the world and tracks that the players inhabit. It wants you go to through the missions and retry them, doing different things each time to collect the specific challenge that might be attributed to that track. The shining stars in these game modes is battle race that is much more akin to the Kart style formula with weapons and items to pick up and the takedown mode which is actually more reminiscent of the Burnout games, something I found to be very a welcome inclusion.Ī quiet but valuable part of the game is the incredible number of challenges it has available. The real value of this game comes through its game modes, Race, Battle race, Takedown, stunt showcase, best lap challenge, playground and then master level events. After the animated opening, there is no real story to be seen.
I feel it important to tell you that if you are after a blow by blow of the entire movie of Cars 3 but in game form, you won’t find it here. Like Mario Kart 64, Sonic R, Crash Team Racing or any of the litany of other kart racer games from other franchises, Cars: 3 Driven to Win possesses a few different game modes, some of which are way better than others. You can do flips, drift and go on two wheels in an interestingly animated fashion but these aren’t just for looks, they can help you slide through gaps and overtake opponents in situations that you can’t get in a normal game. Furthermore, the controls are tight and responsive and there are a great number of tricks that you can do to push yourself closer to first place.
